Pratfall

Sometimes I wish I had taken a few more photography classes while I had the chance in college. Then maybe I'd have a clue as to what I'm doing now. It was a gorgeous, sunny day today and I took a walk in the cemetery during lunch. The intense light was creating fun shadows and deep contrast and I felt like I was missing all kinds of cool photos, if only I had a better eye for composition.
Also, if I were a decent photographer, I could justify spending money on equipment that would help me be even better. I spotted a bluebird in a tree on my walk and it was a great shot, but the bird was too far away for my camera's lens. I started stalking the bird, trying to get in close enough, but I was so intent on keeping a bead on the bird as I followed it, I didn't notice that I was headed for a muddy ditch... and... well, you can guess the rest, I suppose. It was pretty damn funny, actually. It cracked me up and I bet it's been a while since all those dead people had such a good laugh.
At the end of my lunch break, I had a blurry photo of a tiny blue splotch, a handful of cemetery landscapes, and really muddy pants. I think tomorrow I might try to find a change of scenery for my walk. Part of my problem today might be just that I'm getting a bit tired of graveyard scenes. And I think I will start to keep an eye out for a good deal on lenses...

FWIW, I think your photography is fantastic. So go buy those lenses... Have you thought about the TVA park on Elder Mtn for your walk? There are some nice vistas on the reservoir and on the walking trail. The trail hasn't been cleared for a while, so you have to detour around brush and some fallen trees, sometimes in a major way.... it's worth it to me!

Thank you for the kind words. :) I'd like to try the TVA park (I think I saw a book over at the Novel Idea about good spots in Chattanooga for walking & taking pictures—I'll have to check that out, too). Also, speaking of good photography, have you been to Austin Country Limits lately? He's been in Chattanooga for the winter, so most of the photos lately have been in these here parts. Sometimes familiarity can make a great picture even more enjoyable...

Wow... I need to get out more. I haven't seen the new additions at Hunter in real life...

LOL - good one, Alice. Be glad that there wasn't a canyon or gorge nearby... it could have been much worse.
And I'm for you saving up for the lenses. I also notice that the NY times has a new article on *8* megapixel cameras for under $750 (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/24/techno..)
I'm wondering if I should spend the $100 to fix up my Cybershot, or just spring for a new 4 megapixel one. Might cost the same???

Shazam!!!! That's a lot of camera for not a lot of $$$! I'm mighty tempted, but I'll be investing all my spare quatloos in computer equipment this spring, so camera stuff will probably have to wait a while.

gosh, smijer, it has been a while. But until it's all done, you can use the construction mess as an excuse for staying away. ;-)

Well, it could be worth the wait. After all, the cameras will only be cheaper when you finally have the dough!
